Our Policies on Data

Your data is precious, and we treat it that way. As I frequently tell my clients, you can throw your computer out the window and buy a new one, but if your data disappears, you may be out of luck. This is why we recommend always backing up your data. If you do not have a backup, we will not do anything to your equipment that we believe may result in data loss before we back up.

Even if we aren’t doing anything risky, you should always have a backup. We can’t be responsible if your hard drive suddenly decides to crash during our first visit, so if you’re not sure if you’re backed up, we will always suggest backing up before work begins.

Another aspect of protecting your data is confidentiality. We promise that none of our techs will copy or share our clients’ data with anyone at any time without that client’s express permission. We also promise that we will not deliberately open any of our clients’ files unless we need to do so in order to test functionality. (For example, if we were troubleshooting an issue with MS Word, we might open a Word file as a test.) In the case where we need to open a file, we will close the file as soon as it is no longer needed, and we will not share the contents of the file either verbally or electronically or through print.

If there are particular files or folders that you do not wish for us to open, you can make us aware of that and we will make a point of not accessing that data unless you explicitly give us permission at a later time.
